Keep Current Or Buy Newer S2000
Hi all,
Im in two minds at the minute as to wether to buy a new s2000 or keep my current one.
I have my current yellow one, which i resprayed last summer, and only has 55k miles on the clock, but is now 10 years old (2000 plate).
I'll be doing around 20k a year from now on, and thinking, should i get a newer model. just for reliability etc.
I've just bought new callipers, discs and pads for the rear, due to the one binding, is this a sign of things to come....would i spend less in the long run just buying a newer one. Plus its always nice buying a new car
My plastic window split not so long back, so i have to replace it. I could do the £900 new roof, or do a £400 just window jobby and keep £500 towards a new car. Is anything i spend on it now just a waste.
Hmmm confused. I know ultimately its my decision and only i can decided, but it would be nice to hear other peoples opinions, perhaps people have been in the same predicament before.

Depends on your budget for a new car. A 'slightly' newer car may have the same problems that you have rectified.
Monsoon do replacement hoods for £707 fitted for S2KUK members
IIWU, keep the current S, keep it at a decent mechanical standard, and buy a beater to do the leg work, leaving you to enjoy driving the S when it suits you.

If i was to get a replacement it would be 06/07.
I dont want another beater to be honest, i have a 1994 Celica now, and fed up of two lots of insurance, two lots of tax etc.
The beater just comes with problems which have to fixed also.
I just want hassle free driving! Which rules out having a beater.
Would a 06/07 s2000 bring less problems the my current, considering they will prob have around the same amount of miles on the clock.

It's unlikely that certain things on an 06/07 car will be 'worn' like it would be on your current S, but it's impossible to say if it would bring up certain issues, as each car will have been looked after to different standards (if at all )
However, the likelihood of a major problem occurring is reduced.
When I said beater, I meant something dirt cheap, like a Daewoo Matiz, which is cheap on all fronts
FWIW, there's no such thing as 'hassle free driving'. Each car has it's own 'quirks' that are liable to pi$$ you off.

I dont think getting a newer one would be any better TBH mate!
You know yours now! As they say, better the devil you know! Also, we both know that its not really an S you want in future, so why buy another?

If your going to do 20K your going to devalue and put wear and tear on a newer one anyway which I think defeats the object a little. You'll most likely end up having to replace the cracked screen in order to make it easier to sell.
Your 2000 car sounds in resonable condition and 55K on a 10 year old car is low mileage. It seems you have some money to spend so if it were me id treat myself to a few nice S accesories and use the rest to buy a diesel or smaller petrol beater that you can use some of or all of the time.
