Default Kick Panel Scratch

Hey guys - I know this is gonna sound really trivial but I have a sctratch on the metal plate on the passenger side! Having given all my mates a ride last night - I only noticed it this morning!

I have tried everything from armor all to Brasso but can't get rid of the scratch! As you guys know - the kick plate is sort of like brushed alluminium and the scratch is really shiny and I just can't do anything to make it less obvious!

Any suggestions - I will only buy another one as a last resort!

Please help....

I wouldn't like to recommend anything too aggressive in case it makes it worse.

Have you tried a specialist metalworkers - say someone who does anodising or similar treatments? They might take it on or at least advise.

Long shot, but you might try camouflaging it with a permanent marker pen. This might hide the shine you describe and it certainly wouldn't add to your damage. I've used this before on the brushed ally spokes of a steering wheel and it made a definite improvement.

Let us know how you get on. I expect everyone will do this to their kickplate at some point.........

Mate, I hate to break this to you but do you know how much that part costs?? I stupidly scratched my drivers side kick plate (plastic bit) when refitting the seat -

Thanks for the offer Tif! I tried the marker pen solution - It looked better and your can't notice the scratch so much but when I wiped away the excess - it took away the pen from the scratch! Anyway, I will probablt wait a while as I'mnot confident in taking out the kick panel and now way would I dare putting a dremmel to it! Thanks all the same though! The next step for me will be to contact some specialised polishers or something.

Anyway, if I can't get anywhere - I'll take you on Tif - But is it quite easy to take off the kick plate?

Couldn't you coat the kick panel in some form of clear laquer to protect it?

Just out of interest did anyone manage to find a way of removing scratches from the kickplate? If not how much does a replacement plate cost?

Cheers

Wow - that is a very old thread! I actually forgot about the scratch as it became less shiny with time. Can hardly notice it now.

When installing mirrors, they quite often get scratched so I used to use baby lotion, it's about the least abrasive option....give it a go.
