Knocking noise when in motion on bumpy-ish roads
Well, I have had to put my car back into my dealer today, I have a weird knocking/squeaking noise when going over bumpy roads. It appears to be the suspension but is quite quiet unless you know what you are listening to, I have taken a mechanic from the dealer out and he has heard it, and also thinks its probably the suspension - it almost sounds like a creaky spring at times.
You can only hear it with the roof and windows up and stereo off, which makes life difficult when the weather is so good.
Hope they find it and fix it quickly - I want to test my wind deflector prototype upgrade thingy.
Anybody heard of this type of noise before - Brian (Bmarshal) perhaps???

The trouble is that I have so many squeeks, rattles, clonks, etc.,, etc. that I fear something might drop off!

Well, just picked up the car "all fixed sir, it was the splash guards under the engine, we have tightened them and put some foam inserts in to stop any further noise. The service manager has tested it and says all is fine."
So, out I go, and within 100yards off going down a bumpy road, I hear the noise!
It might be slightly better, but it still sounds like a muffled tin can being hit by something metallic.
Can't be bothered to complain immediately, but I guess it will be going back again.......

I have this image of foam and water rusting through the splash guard, until it drops off

hi Ross - difficult to tell, since the car always makes a bizarre array of noises, but your squeeky noise under the bonnet sounds very similar to a new noise that i've been getting for the last couple of weeks.
let me know if your dealer finds it....

Well I have not heard anything like that, my baby just bounces over the bumps (quite reasonable on stiff suspension).
Did 80mph over a serious hill the other night, scary, but it was dead straight so no real biggy. No squeaking but in 3rd gear am I really going to hear it?
Hope it gets sorted soon, like my damn rattle!!!
Often.

Well, theory nuimber 2 is its the bonnet catch, they have taped it up and tested and cant hear the rattle, I haven't tested yet, but they have ordered a new one for fitting today hopefully.
It certainly looks likely, the bonnet catch does move front to back, and has marked the underside of the bonnet (though I figured this was just normal) and the sound could be about right.
I will let you know - good luck in finding your own rattles
