Knocking noise when in motion on bumpy-ish roads
I get a clonking from the rear brakes when I go over speed bumps and sometimes when braking at slow speeds. Im pretty sure its the brakes, mine started after I fried them on a track day but I have since had them apart twice and thoroughly cleaned and regreased every component but they still do it.
Im using non OEM pads (poterfield R4S) and Im begining to wonder whether ifdont quite fit the calipers as well as the OEMs, there is no impact on braking performace but I think they must have a bit of play in them that causes them to jolt when going over bumps. Im going to go back to the OEM pads when these ones are worn just to see if that is causing it.
Id be interested to know if you find anything to the contrary.
Good Luck

ross,
i think i caught this one a bit late so im not sure whether youve cured it or not - i had the same problem when i first got the car. they put it up on the ramps and jiggled with a few things and found it to be a loose plate on the exhaust (holding one of the boes on). they tightened it and hey presto...squeak and rattle all gone!!

Thanks Lee,
After 4 visits and supposedly 4 fixes the rattle has now gone - Hoorhah!
It was a loose bonnet catch! The old catch sat quite high and has marked the underside of the bonnet, the new one sits much lower and doesn't wobble around like the last.
So, at least so far, they appear to have solved the rattle.
Thanks for all teh suggestions.

Ross, Bon2k,
I recently heard the same problem with my US-purchased S2. I have a Honda hardtop shell which uses the same attachments as the softtop. The hooks on the roof rest in a groove or recess at the top of the A pillar.
I initially thought the seals on the windscreen and the hardtop were rubbing (and some of the sound probably was that), but after driving around the block several times, I found that the stationary latch where the hook ties into was loose. After playing around with it, I had about a 1/16 inch vertical and a 1/32 inch lateral motion which incidentally recreated the knocking sound.
I returned to the dealership yesterday who stated that Honda had issued a bulletin on these latches or 'strikers' as they called them, and that there is a newer (presumably more rigid) design. The dealership replaced these at no charge and there was no sound after picking the car up last evening.
I never really studied the old stikers and their anchor points are covered by plastic, so I can't really compare them with the new ones.
Perhaps this is a little late, but I hope it helps.
