Looking for an old thread
Hi guys,
This is a bit of a long shot, but here goes:
Way, way back in about 2008, there was a thread on this forum (or a thread with a link) to the story of a guy who was arrested and sent to prison for dangerous driving following a crash. IIRC, he was not an S2000 owner, but one of the UK regulars knew him or knew of him through the CTR or ITR forums?
The guy wrote a blog about his experience and emailed it in chunks to his wife / GF, who in turn posted it on the web.
Is there any chance that someone remembers this and can point me in the direction of it? I've tried searching in here, but (as ever) the search is rubbish and/or it's just not there. Google has also been unhelpful so far.
Again, IIRC, the guy did not directly cause the accident per se, but his driving behaviour immediately prior to the crash was such that the witnesses blamed him (overtaking, pressing on, nothing OTT, just a standard hoon). His attitude changed dramatically during the trial and his time in jail.
The reason for wanting to find it again is this - I have a friend who is doing his PhD in risk management and safety culture, to whom I recounted the tale. He's interested in this sort of thing in a professional sense and I wanted to hook him up with the link.
Thankyou in advance!

I've just sat down and read every word of that, it ought to be linked and stickied for anyone who thinks going out for a "hoon" is innocent fun, and doesn't do any harm, it shows what a car, any car can do to a human being and what the consequences and do to a whole load more human beings. That guy ought to write it into a TV short for the consumption of all learner drivers and anyone who thinks treating public roads as a test track is a laugh.
Very sobering and very brave of the guy to have the balls to write it.

Thanks Rich(s x2)
We really really need a "Like" / +1 / "Thanks" button. Sure we used to have one in the old days...
That was exactly the effect that I was talking about, richmc. VERY sobering.
Thank you both very much for your help / comments.
And Yes, this should be a sticky on the front page, IMO.

I'm not sure its a scare factor of hooning when I read it, it's more a reminder to respect the limits and not to take unnecessary risks. Why overtake near a corner when you can wait a bit longer for a safer gap, for example. Or instead of overtaking people at all just hold back a bit until the road opens up a bit.
It's a reminder that none of us are as good a driver as we think we are, no one is invincible and to always keep that in the back of ones mind before getting carried away as there is always such a fine line between a close shave and ruining your (or someone elses) life.

I'm not sure that linking this or a stickie would do any good here as no one goes out for a "hoon", "blast" or "spirited" drive with the intention of causing an accident and if going out for a "hoon", "blast" or "spirited" drive wasn't fun no one would do it.
I would consider myself a sensible driver and rider and go out on spirited drives with fellow S owners and also go out with friends and organised spirited rides on our bikes through the CBR owners club and the last thing that I want is to be hit by a car or collide with a car when I am riding but the reality of it is that accidents happen.
