Default Lubricant Query

I know that there have been several threads covering various choices of oil, so apologies for starting another one!

I have recently taken my car in for it's first service and Chiswick Honda removed all of my mineral oil and replaced it with Castrol SLX (fully synthetic). This is apparently the oil they recommend for the NSX.
My question is, what is the boards opinion of Castrol SLX? There have been several (hundred!)recommendations for Mobil 1 etc. Although I'm inclined to trust what Chiswick Honda have given me any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kit

Hmmm. Seems that there is inconsistency within Honda - at my 9,000 mile service earlier this week, the synthetic oil used to replace the existing stuff was 10W-40 Shell Helix Ultra rather than Castrol.

Just checked and Savoy Warrington used Castrol SLX too, 0W30. I've not seen this in the shops (not been looking though!) but I'm picking up a 1l pack when the car goes in for the revised clutch.

Spot on Simmo

Edit: D'oh! see Mark's post below The 10W30 is what is hard to get (aside from Ford) I ran 10W40 Halfords mineral.

Simmo, I thought 10W-30 is Honda's recommended pre 9,000 oil?

Pretty sure the run-in oil's 10w30 (but I don't think Honda have ever actually said.).

If you want to run 10w30, it seems it's a choice of Ford stuff, or Redline 10w30 fully synthetic. (not cheap, but the best IMHO.).

It's funny you find different dealers recommend different oils for the same car*. Can't be anything to do with what deals they get at, all obviously

-Brian.

(* Experience from my ITR, not my S2000. On dealer recommended Mobil 1, another Shell Helix....)

Brian

Yes, it is all down to what deals they get from suppliers. a year ago my dealer recommended Mobil 1, this year they recommend Shell Helix because they make more money (not my words).

I`ve got Esso Ultron in mine now, which is a 5-40.

Must admit, running better than ever. More pickup since the new oil/bolt update. No, I`m not imagining it....seriously it is better.
