Manifold and Engine mounts
So it's a nice sunny day and i'm not in work.
Go for a drive? Nah.
Do some work on the car? Of course!
So, mission plan for today was to:
So I get started on the manifold and all is going fine. I realise that the manifold must go out from underneath the car. Even though I only have about 18" of space, it should be enough.
And it is. I make a mental note on how the manifold came out so I could put the new one back in and all would be well with the exhaust world
Except it wasn't.
Try as I might, from both top and bottom, the new manifold wouldn't go in!
Turns out the one of the primaries extends about 20mm more on the HKS than on the OEM, so it was hitting the chassis.
Right, bugger this - if I remove the engine mount, i'll be able to go in from the top.
So I go about removing the engine mount, and I find this:
Yep, engine mount is snapped in two!
Now under closer inspection of the design of the engine mount, Honda has included a type of 'Failsafe' design so that if it does break, there are physical meausres in place to stop any drivetrain issues. Unfortunately, this has also completely disguised the apparent failure of the mount!
Knowing that Honda have a reputation for crap engine mounts, I planned on repairing this one.
Using the tried and tested Polyeurethane sealent, I will repair the mount making it stronger than it was before!
Well, it's either that or shell out a couple of hundred pounds on a new engine mount set from the States....which is still something I might just do anyway
So with the engine mount removed, I got back to fitting the manifold, this time from the top of the engine bay.
Going, going.......NOT GOING.
Even with the engine mount removed, the bloody thing wouldn't go in!
After weighing it up again from underneath the car, I decide that I will simply remove the subframe bar and unbolt the subframe slightly to generate space.
Many swearwords later, and WOOHOO - the thing actually fits!
Now - I have no doubt that on a ramp you could probably get this thing to slide in easier. Well, I hope so!
However, I didn't have one so things had to be taken the complex way!
Oh well, finally got the manifold in, and with the Jack holding the engine in place, I started it up to make sure there were no leaks/CELs....and there weren't!
Rest of the jobs went smoothly - new bulbs look cool and match my main beam temp. Lowering the front was a doddle, even if I had to remove the dampers/upper arms!
Can't wait to get the new tyres on and geo done. The car is feeling better than it ever has at the moment!

So, mission plan for today was to:
- Fit HKS manifold
- Fit 6000k headlight bulbs
- Lower front suspension about 10mm
- treat roof seals

I forgot to add.
My car has done 48k miles, is spectacularly well maintained, the suspension bushes are all good and it get garaged over winter.
My engine mount was gone.
I wonder how many other owners have this issue without realising....

Good effort...all done on axle stands too. Any noticeable difference with the HKS?
The repaired mount will be fine for a while, but here's one for a long term repair:

Fitting a manifold is ball ache i tried it and gave up, had to borrow a lift
Noticed any difference Ron?
RE engine mount can you visually tell if its broke?

Ron, I wasn't doubting your ability, but I wouldn't if it was my car risk it for the price of failure would cost more. I assume the other mounts were fine, agree with other comments your engine bay looks mint for a 2000 year car.
