Default Milage depreciate - is it worth owning two cars?

I do about 15,000 miles a year.

I'm trying to work out the cost of owning a second car, compared to the cost of depreciation of using an S2000 everyday...

....is it worth owning a second car for this reason (forget practical reasons) ?

I am basically concerned that in say three years time, I'll have a 90,000 mile'r -- concerned with how much it'll be worth, - and whether ANYONE will be interested in buying the car at all?

Any thoughts?

Just to say - I'm yet to buy an S2K. Does it make any difference to buy a higher milage example (say 50k) for less money, or a lower milages (say 25k) for more money, - or is it all swings & roundabouts in the end?

I do, but then I've been doing 1000 miles per week. And forget depreciation, the extra petrol and servicing costs on the S make up for that.

I stopped worrying about things years ago!

Must admit, I'd rather have several, older cars that would better fit my mood than one, newer car that would super-depreciate.

I mean, for the price of an A3 or something equally depressing, you could run 2-3 interesting cars.

Including one utterly worthless d-segment, like an Accord, Mondeo, Primera, etc that's really not a bad car to drive.

I don't tend to worry too much, but then I always keep a second car (Saab 900T with 120k miles so far).

When buying a sports car I always tend to buy below 50k miles as things can have a habit of getting a bit loose after that, but if a well treated car with 70k miles came up I'd take it. The UK tends to be a lot more mileage sensitive than the continent, but then I suppose it's natural as we do a lot more stop/start driving than they do so it places more wear on the car.

I'd like to think that the best bargain would be an '04 or later S2K with 100k miles on it. Honda build more than makes up for many mileage-derived worries, and an extended guarantee would cover anything serious. With 100k miles on you'd be looking at a very good price for a nearly new car.

Good luck hunting.

I have a 1.2 Punto as my other car it does 50mpg, and cost 140 sheets to insure, and I couldn't give a stuff where I leave it or if anything is going to happen to it. Also am rennovating a house so it does come in useful even if it is small.

Plus the S definately feels more special if you don't drive it every day, although it only gets used 1 - 2 times per week............until the summer.
