i'd like to see a marked speedo, my polo g40 had one, small marks on the speedo indicating the limiter in each gear, easy to know what gears are useable, i'm still not used to having to drop 4 gears on the motorway in the S

mine is a bit notchy going into gears. never had gate problems though

pretty sure it's down to clutch - sat at lights, engage 1st, the car kinda bangs as if the clutch is part-engaged.
that or it's the diff - diff seems to lockup on very tight corners and loose gravel (full lock, carpark type stuff) and one wheel always slips. no problems with engagement though!

You are probably just forcing the change, be more relaxed and it will flow much better.

I've noticed this when engaging 1st, although the gear engages easily it feels like the whole car moves a touch as the gears mesh. Has done this since day 1

You don't need a dash indicator.

3rd gear gives you 10mph for every 1,000rpm, ie: 30mph=3,000rpm,
90mph=9,000rpm

From there, you can work the rest out.
I was waiting for some smart arse to go on about revs etc. The fact is I couldn't be arsed to qualify my reason at the time so I will add that it only occurs when I am not concentrating on my driving and not looking at the rev counter and I'm travelling in traffic. Thanks for the lesson though, I've printed out your post and it's now stuck to my windscreen so I can reference at what RPM and speed I must shift at but it still won't tell me what gear I am in so I am also considering employing someone to sit beside me whenever I drive shouting out the gear I am currently in.
