Missing bolt?

Nick,
Never understood myself until the weekend; shut the boot and heard a little tinkling noise of small stones falling from the rear bumber.
The large plastic part around the number plate which fits to the bumper (soffit as I have now learnt!) seems to have enough movement to allow smaller ones to move there & wedge in, causing small scratches with the movement of the car.
Gently flexing the surround & tapping the bumper seems to move them out - not sure how many I had in there, but all about 2mm max in size & blame it on a friend's driveway.
I never had a problem with it until the weekend, so dont worry if you dont have any stones - it all just adds weight afterall.
All I need to do now is insist my friend re does the drive, or I need a new friend!

I'm afraid my solution is a bit of a codge but it works. From underneath and behind the number plate I simply cleaned the plastic surrounding the lip that allows stones to collect and sealed the gap with plenty of black gaffer tape.
Access is not easy and I ideally would have liked to have filled the gap with black mastic
Will see how long my 'codge' lasts.
oh I see so that is behind the bumper... all clear now! So the square surrounding the plate is not part of the bumper. I think I understand.
Mine doesnt rattle though, think I'm stone free

Hmmm; new screw now in, but soffit still keeps moving down a few mm exposing small scratches. I need to re-tighten the screw every week.
Am I missing some clips to hold it in place, or do they all do this?!?!
Cant see anything there & really dont fancy taking it apart 'to see' as I am terrible at getting things back together again!
Mikey - looks as though you have taken yours fully apart, is there anything I am missing?
Thanks
Matt

Preludes do it more dramatically.
The whole plate plinth drops about 1/2 cm if you knock it. It sort of 'snaps' back up again. I absent-mindedly went round and fixed all the 'Ludes in the Honda Institute at the visit.
The screws only seem to hold the lights in and lock it to a milky plastic inner carrier, which appears to connect to nothing..
I've looked at the diagram, but cannot work out HTF it's supposed to stay in place!

Thanks Nick - was getting extremely confused on that.
Even my neighbour came out last night asking me why I spend so much time touching my rear bumper!
At least I know 'it was designed like that, sir'.
Even started debating in my head if the weight of small stones was enough to make it drop down!

Mikey, are these on the top of the bottom? - trying to work out where to push & in which direction.
Nervous of pushing too hard & causing all sorts of damage / popping the rear tow-eye cover out that needed to be epoxied in!
