Default Missing front and rear strakes

So I've just realised that my S is missing both front strakes and rear strakes, ( the bits of plastic that protrude down in front of the wheel attached to the fender liner, inner wheel arch).

Before I order them and the associated clips/screws what do they do? and are they needed?

My guess is that they have some sort of aerodynamic function.

Thanks

They were an optional extra and are very expensive.

Thanks Robin I realise there was the optional colour coded side strakes but were the black plastic ones that sit in front of all 4 wheels also optional extras?

Part numbers: Font, 74102-S2A-000, 74152-S2A-000
Rear, 74475-S2A-J00, 74485-S2A-J00

Ah right the ones you are on about are fitted as standard so yes you are missing them.

They do serve a purpose aerodynamically, can't remember exactly how. Deflects the turbulent air away from the wheels or reduces lift at high speed or something like that. This topic has popped up before so if you do a search I'm sure you'll find an answer.

the front pair are a right swine....all it takes is a trip to the Mot bay where upon you gently edge the wheels onto the brake testing roller bars and if either strake gets bent to high up it snaps the plastic of the wheel arch splash guard which its attached to underneath....I had it 'stapled' with a heat gun thingy at the workshop so you wouldn't even know it had happened.
Some are secure on both sides but a majority are loose due to the screws rusting/weathering, nice to know their there but a bloody nuisance...
