For anyone that's interested these are the extra controls it gives you from the dash buttons

Functions provided by the stock buttons:

MUTE mutes or attenuates the audio output
MODE changes from Radio to CD (and to OFF in some models)
CH changes Radio bands (FM1, FM2 etc)
Volume Up/Dn adjust volume up or down in steps

Functions provided by pressing multiple buttons: (this is easier than you might think)

Hold this button and press this button to get this function
MODE/Volume-Up seeks next higher radio station
(next track in CD mode)

MODE/Volume-Down seeks previous radio station
(previous track in CD mode)

CH/Volume-Up changes to next higher radio preset
(next higher CD or MP3 folder)

CH/Volume-Down changes to previous radio preset
(previous CD or MP3 folder)

I can also recommend Modifry (Bob) - he was a real help when I had problems fitting my Yellow Jacket (instructions were for LHD wiring).

Bass am I missing something here

As I undertand it you need to hold a certain button on the dash down to change the function of the volume button.
How easy is it to do that just with your right hand

It's actually really easy to do, try it next time you're in the car Volume control is far more linear than the Alpine unit which I always found did nothing until you held it down for ages then it turned the stereo up far too much (when it wasn't changing to radio, or skipping to the next track ).

Cheeky git Andy

Hopefully I should make half of it back on the KCE865B when I get round to putting it on ebay.

Thumbs up

Another for the modifry adaptor, it was delivered quickly and I fitted it with no smoke or flames!

Using two controls with one hand (i.e. Mode+Vol UP to skip track) is dead easy, and much much safer than trying to do the same on my old kenwood with no dash interface

Admittedly, I haven't fitted the speed wire yet as I have no-where with enough light and the weather's been crap since christmas - I fitted the stereo at night using some carpark lights near halfords in Reading with the roof down! Need a bit more light to work out how to route the wire - any hints Bass?

While I'm at it, has anyone routed the iPod adaptor cable around to the secret compartment? I'm not sure if I need to remove the centre console to do it? Has anyone else on here done the same?

It is pretty much as the installation guide says. Two points to note though...

1) Be really careful taking the underdash trim off. I snapped one of the clips last night, luckily it was only one out of six and a spot of blu-tack has remedied the situation.

2) The wiring harness that is on Modifry's instructions is for the US. For the UK you have to turn the diagram upside down. It is the only black and white wire though, so fairly easy to spot.

As far as routing goes, just take off said bit of trim and pass the cable through the back of the stereo compartment, you can then cut the cable to keep it short enough that you don't have to worry about attaching it to anything to keep it out the way.
