hey just wondering if anyone out there has gone from a mk2 turbo mr2 to an s2000 and there opinions?

basically i want something newer and more reliable and i love the look of the s2000, going to be a weekend car but i dont want to feel like im taking a step back, the mr2 was great handeling in the dry and at 280bhp wasnt exactly sluggish either

I owned lots of turbo nutter mobiles before the S2000 and the adjustment is difficult (you miss the grunt) but once you give it time it's often just as quick a car, just doens't feel it.

Ive had an MR2, and now own an S2000.

Take one out for a test drive, and it will answer al of your questions.

You have more fun with vtec than you do in a T MR2

 

Reliability favours the S2000 over the MR2 T for a start

 

why not get an S then turbo it ?

Had an MR2 Veilside Roadster before my S2000 and I can catagorically say that the S p##ses all over it!
Handles so much better and looks great.

 

I went from a Rev2 Turbo about 5 years ago to an S.

Initially i was underwhelmed as i missed the torque of the Mr2 Turbo. You don't get the shove in the back in quite the same way as you did with a turbo car, but once you get used to the power delivery you realise its a remarkably rapid car.

Handling is much better too.

Overall, whilst i did like my Mr2 and still have a soft spot for it, the S2000 is a much more capable car.

To drive :

The position is the same in the cabin, but you'll feel the bonnet is massive, and the boot very short.

Power, you'll think it's pathetic. But watch the speedo, it's not far of a 250/275bhp MR2. It has that NA trick on never giving you the torque wall that a turbo will, be it still is fairly quick.

Handling, totally different, you can slide the car with confidence. Traction is so much better (due to the proper suspension in each corner, instead of the Ronald McDonald struts). The proper 50/50 weight split and lower CoG means is more controlable too.

Gearbox, million times better. The MR2 was a bit like stiring porridge. The S is crisp as anything.

Brakes, about the same power, but they feel a lot nicer. But I think that is due to the weight balance.

To own :

Running cost are about the same, tyres, MPG and oils are equal. It's a Japanese 4 banger, it'll never be costly.

To mod :

I added a supercharger to my S and it made the MR2 feel like a 1.0 corsa in comparison. Better designed SC's are available and turbo kits are comming out too.
