Default Nail in rear tyre!

Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when washing car yesterday I noticed a nail in the rear n/s tyre.
I had one on my last set of rears and had it plugged for a month or so and then replaced them anyway coz they were worn.

These rears have less than 2000 miles of winter driving so are hardly worn at all but now I am not sure whether to get it plugged or replace it with a new rear..

What are your guys opinion on plugging a rear tyre of a high performance car.

(Wont be doing track days)

Any feedback or opinions welcome.

PS Im also of the belief that tyres should always be replaced in pairs so this could work out expensive.

I had to get my rear repaired after only a couple of thousand miles. I've now done 11,500 miles - many were none too gentle - with no problems.

If the garage will repair it I wouldn't worry.

If the plug is in the centre (ish) of the tyre, I wouldn't worry at all. I've been driving high performance cars for a good many years and have never had problems after having "nail" type puctures repaired

I agree if the tyre place reckons it's ok go with what they say, I too had a puncture on my M3 rear, first was plugged but they wouldn't repair it a second time when I got a nail

moral of the story....stay away from DIY shop car parks as I reckon this is where I've picked mine up from

Kwik Fit repair punctures for free if the puncture is within a certain tolerance (i.e. not the tyre walls)

Thanks for the info and opinions.
Im sure a plugged tyre is safer anyway than a tyre with a nail in it so will get it fixed tomorrow.
Its about 1"1/2 in from the outer edge so that should be ok?
Will see what the garage say

mec, kwik fit did the last tyre and it was less than a tenner but that was new valve and balance.
But they chipped the edge of the wheel.
so i would rather pay and not have the wheel damaged.

Cheers

Same thing happened to me on saturday...went out to wash the car...saw the flat tyre.....big screw through the center of the rear..tyres were fairly worn so went off to bracknel tyres for another pair..kept the remaining good one as a "spare"
