A while ago I posted about some noises coming from the offside rear, originally thought it was the pads/crap on the discs, as did the dealer, so replaced and cleaned them up etc. No joy, still got a grinding scraping noise coming from the back but it steadily got more pronounced but only on left handers.

Went back to the dealer who've now had a proper look, apparently it is the diff and it's been cooked! They drained the oil out which was black and there's a fair bit of swarf collected on a magnet in the diff.

I've got three options:

1. A new one from Honda at

 

sounds a bit pricey. unless that's fitted

nightmare.. what mileage have you done?

bad luck Graham. Have you tried getting prices from some of the breakers listed in the for sale and wanted section?

i suspect the only way that you could prove that the oil hadn't been changed would be to have it analyised for age. But seeing as the dealer has probably disposed of the oil, that would be a problem.

might it be the time to invest in a different final drive?

 

I'll have a shop around if I get time.

A lower final drive had crossed my mind, but it's not going to get much track use from now on so I think I'll keep it standard.

 

Mine was from a 53 plate that had done 7k miles, think it was less than
