I'm almost certain that you need to be formally cautioned and charged as soon as they have the evidence to do so; in your case it should have been when you were stopped.

There used to be this bloke on here calling himself Dark Blue Mark,

As far as NIPs are concerned you could be prosecuted up to six months after the date of the offence. That's a very unpleasant wait.

Can I just get this straight?

and to the op - yup mate im feeling your pain - as per my post the other night my back end went out just doing 20 - which ended up with me in a ditch
lucky you didnt do any damage though - im sure the bloke is just being a jumped up little door-handle tbh.. prob find he's just qualified to go on patrol car duty and is flexing his muscles a bit...

Well, I once had a stand-up row with one (he was obstructing the traffic whilst this was going on) because he tried to tell me some bullshit about right-of-way when he was obviously wrong.

IMO a freshly gritted road is just as - if not more - dangerous than an icy one.
