Default New car oil consumption

Took delivery of new car a week ago. I have read loads of posts and FAQ info from this site which is a great source for information. I know the topic of oil consumption has been discussed in the past but thought I would share my experience in this new thread.

I went on a longish run yesterday after which I did my first fill up since I got the car. I filled up with 40litres of Super Unleaded as the fuel guage dropped to about 4 bars and I was unsure how accurate the guage would be. When I got home I checked the engine oil which needed almost 600ml to bring it back to the top mark.
The car has now covered 300 miles. Has been carefully run in without going over 3500 revs so far. I will continue to keep a close eye on the oil level but hearing some scare stories on other threads I am becoming a bit paranoid about this. I hope the oil consumption falls off as the miles increase.

Do you know that the oil was at max when you got it??

In the first 9000 miles since I got my car I have probably put less than 500ml in as top up.

It was on the top mark when I got the car.
I thought it might use some in the early miles and as such I purchased a litre of oil at the dealership when I took delivery.

Not usual at all for any of the 04+ cars, which use a lot less oil than the 99-03 ones.

I couldn't have used more than 200-300ml in the first year of owning my 04, which was a stark contrast with my 02.

Keep an eye on it. If it continues doing it, it may be worth having a word with your dealer. It's certainly at odds with the vast majority of experiences I've read about on here from 04+ owners.

I've only used about 1 litre in 40k for topping up.

I've got about 4k miles on the clock and never checked the oil!!

I will do this weekend though - didn't realise it was a problem.

Have you been doing a lot more Vteccing?

That sometimes does it.

TBH, I wouldn't worry about it - mine drank like a fish until about 6,000, when it suddenly stopped.

Due to manufacturing tolerances, not every car will be exactly the same.
