new s2000!
Hi,
Tomorrow, I'm gonna become the new proud owner of an s2000. I'm really excited about it, but also a bit "concerned" that I'm gonna spin it and end up facing the wrong way in a bush!!! So it anyone's got any poitners on handling etc I'd be grateful to hear from you. This will be my first rear wheel drive car. I've still got my MK3 CRX for sale if anyone's interested?
Also, what's the general opinion on using the super unleaded as a pose to regular?
Anyway, hope to hear from someone soon!!
Cheers
Alison

Alison, don't worry about Colin aka Cheshire Carper, you'll get used to him, eventually

Welcome to the board Alison, and congrats on the best choice of car you can possibly make (Im not biased at all me).
If it helps at all I have had the S since September, and it is my first rear wheel drive as well. I was at first mortified by all the stories of spins and slides in the wet, but have actually found the car to be quite manageable in all weathers (have driven it in a few of really bad downpours now). Basically dont VTEC in the wet (oooohh go on maybe a bit on the straights then) and just treat it with a little respect when exiting corners / roundabouts - youll be fine.
Run it on Optimax - there is no substitute, its all mine has drunk since its birth.
Have fun with the car - and go sign up for SM3 !.

nice colour combination.....I am biased though as same as mine
my advice would be to take it gently and do all your braking in a straight line - use a constant throttle through corners and apply throttle gently and progressively once the wheels are straight - once you are able to use VTEC having run the engine in DO NOT use VTEC in the wet
above all enjoy

There is a Thread at the top of the uk forum which i think CC has provided a link.
The only advise is take it easy and steady. Definately no
untill the 600 miles run in has been done and then build up in stages on the straights. As for the corners take it easy and don't have a heavy right foot or you could end up facing the wrong way.
Had a slight tank slapper this morning and it wasn't even a tight corner and not at speed either. Must have been a mix of water, salt and leaves on the exit and cold tyres.
It certainly woke me up.
P.S I wasnt driving like a Loon Dad as i know that you will read this. It was rush hour and solid traffic.
I was sceptical when i picked mine up from leeds and it was raining most the way home. Took it steady under 5000 RPM and it was fine all the way back.
One good tip, get your screen cleaned and get some Rain ex on it, as the wipers are not great
Have fun.

Definitely use super unleaded. Most people swear by Optimax.
Check you know how to open the fuel cap before setting off. If you like puzzles, see how long it takes you, before resorting to the handbook!
The handling will only catch you out if you are silly or unlucky (oil on the road etc). Unfortunately, no-one likes to think they were being silly...............
The tyres are quite brilliant in the dry but IMO you must (and should) slow down in the cold and wet. Read the threads and you will see that most people have problems speeding up and out of corners. Having grown up with RWD, I think the S is just typical of RWD cars in this respect.
