Default Nightmare!

Well, I've just collected the s2k from the dealer after my stalling problem.

They took the car out and, typically, the problem did not recur.
They undertook diagnostic checks - everything functioning normally!

They suggest that I entrust the car to their care whenever I'm working locally so that they can repeatedly test drive it until it displays symptoms.

I have a horrible feeling that I'm entering a nightmare scenario

I'm also beginning to feel a sense of heartache- this was the 4th warranty visit in the 6 months that I've had the car.

Considering ordering an 02 model - are there any mechanical modifications? Is it just me, or does anyone else get the impression that Honda are developing this car as they go along, relying on owners' feedback??

Feel better for whingeing

Froddy:

Sorry to hear about your probs.

What revs do you normally apply before pulling away?

Is the car parked out or garaged?

What fuel are you using?

Cedric,

I probably pull away at 1,500/2,000 revs;
The car is stored outside (but don't think it's wet weather related);
I'm using optimax fuel.

The car smells of fuel, as if it's flooding. I think that, for some reason, too much juice is injected into the cylinders when I fire her up - car starts fine but, within seconds, it wants to stall.

Curious thing is that it only seems to happen when the engine's warm. If I rev the car in neutral and take my foot off the accelerator the revs drop to the point of stalling before it corrects itself. After about 1 minute it's fine, and then the fuel smell materialises.

It's very odd.

If I were you I'd do a reset on the ECU. You've given the garage a chance. Did they reset the ECU? Whilst it may not be the cause of your problem at least, you'll know that that avenue has been tried and it will do no harm anyway. Either pull the ECU fuse for about 30 seconds and then replace it or just disconnect the battery for the same period. You'll have to re-code your radio if you disconnect the battery.

Remember it's a 'Learning' ECU so allow a couple of days or a good few miles for it to settle down. I'd certainly do this in your situation! Good luck.

Thanks Cedric,

I assume the ECU is the computer brain of the car?? I noticed that, although I didn't have to re-code the radio, the trip meter had changed from 'B' to 'A', which makes me think they've fiddled with the electrics somewhere.

I'll ask them whether they reset the ECU next week.

Much appreciated!

Couldn't that be a fuel regulator problem.
I think Brian had somthing replaced on the fuel system.

It's the one labelled 'backup' in the interior fuse box. There's a faq on it - RHD is just the mirror of LHD, so it's applicable.
