The aircon automatically comes on when you direct the airflow onto the windscreen. Other than that, it's not normal for it to turn itself on.....

You shouldn't have water in your headlights. Aren't they supposed to be sealed units?

and it is bloody annoying, if I want the air con on I'll bloody turn it on!

Not normal for the lights to get water ingress, but I have read about it happening to other people.

Here's a couple of threads

I had the condensation during the summer . Cleared it by removing the connectors and blowing it with a hairdryer for 30 mins or so. The glass was red hot when I'd finished and the problem has not returned.

If my car was new however, I leave it at the dealers and ask them to give you a call when they had fixed it under warranty

has anyone managed to disable the auto air-con when you select to direct the airflow on the two demist settings?

i downloaded aircon disable fix from a US thread, which involves turning off the aircon, ignition and other steps to no avail.

Anyone else succeeded?

It should do Moggy. Put the fan on one led bar, then turn the air direction knob to the bottom then back to the top (windscreen) and the air con led will light. I bet you it does?

go on try it.

Its a nuisance cos sometimes I do it without noticing and I loose valuable BHP.

And the little green ON indicator on the right hand side of the AC button is covered by the steering wheel . The indicator should be on the left hand side of the button so you can see it

Sorry............minor niggles
