Haven't noticed anything like that - it's a bit jerky but most cars do that.

Does it do it every time ?

I get a bit of a clunk, and occasionally lock up on down shift, when my heel and toe doesn't quite match up !

Tried this and nothing happened. Can't recall it ever happening in the S (or in my beemer) but slightly puzzled about why you want first at 10mph when slowing

I tend to come to a halt in second and go round corners in second or above and can't recall the last time I changed into first when decelerating. Maybe I'm getting old

Having thought about it, I am getting old

on my way to work there is a tight 90 degree right hander followed by a 90 degree left - the straight in between is not long enough to vtec in 2nd before needing to brake so a downshift to 1st is needed if you want 'to make progress'

I feel this quite often, a kind of kick through the clutch when the cogs do not mesh cleanly, or even it maybe the input shafts in the gearbox moving. I sometimes feel a kick through the through the gear level as well. I don't think it is normal, but I'm not sure how abnormal. If it worries you, see the dealer, if you trust them.

I think it is quite normal to need to change down to first when moving, especially in traffic. The manual says that 2nd should normally only be used above 14mph. I don't think it would be sensible to stop to select first everytime your speed drops below 14mph.
