Blimey, £15 for an app!

Free version seemed to say you only got 5mins logging on some things?

Mine used to do full sessions for me, maybe it has been changed now though? You can try it to see if it fixes your Rpm data rate anyway, if it does you won't have to buy another adaptor.

Have just tried Torque on the Mazda. It seemed to be updating reasonably quickly (the RPM gauge on the home screen seemed fairly smooth). I also found a screen in the menus that said it was reading an average of 13 PIDs per second. When logging 5 PIDs from the ECU (plus some GPS values), I chose a logging rate of 10Hz (0.1s) and values seem to change between every 4 and 8 readings. With 5 PIDs being logged, at 0.4-0.8s per update, that seems to be 6-13Hz refresh, occasionally quicker. Logging with just RPM shows a new value every 1-2 readings (occasionally 3), so 5-10Hz, which seems consistent with the previous test of multiple PIDs.
I'll try the same test with the S2000 tomorrow when I head down the garage.

I'll try RaceChrono too.

An update, the OBD LX arrived and I tested it with Torque yesterday, and there is no improvement in the OBD data refresh rate, still about 1Hz.
The GPS refreshes at 10Hz as expected.
I'll try again with fewer data points being logged in Torque.
If that doesn't work, I'll give Racechrono a go or maybe the official Scantool App, though I'm not sure that allows for external GPS units.
