Default OEM Stereo Problems

Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with the '01 OEM Stereo (shown as 'Type A' in the 2001 Owners Handbook)?

Mine's been fine up to today, but now refuses to switch on. I've checked the fuse which is fine, and also found that the illumination still works when the headlights are on. I've had the unit out and the cable still has power to the connector at the back.

Looks like it's dead, so here comes another set of 45 mile round trips to Brindley Honda ! Literally just finished another run of trips for replacement alloys, 27K service, 4 wheel alignment, etc....

PS - it is a leased company vehicle so not likely to change to a non-OEM stereo, just interested if anyone else has had a similar failure.

Thanks,

Matt.

Matt,

Check the fuse for the accessory socket - you'll most likely find that it has blown. Bizarrely, the socket and the radio are on the same circuit so if the socket fuse goes it'll take the radio with it.

I had the same problem and couldn't figure out what the hell was going on as the radio still had 'power' (illumination, anti-theft LED and CD ejected ok) but wouldn't switch on. Replaced the fuse and it works fine now.

Good luck!

Serious answer from me - bin it and get an aftermarket stereo and new speakers - really makes a difference
