Official S2000 Owners Club

Myself, Ade, Mark Turner and Paul(UK) have been talking for some time about creating an Official UK S2000 Owners club. Ade, Mark and I recently met to discuss how we could progress, and to talk about what the club would set out to acheive. (Paul is busy with family commitments and does not have the time to be very involved, but he has given us his blessing - as the guy who first started the UK forums - to progress this activity.)

We find ourselves here on s2ki in a unique position, in that, we already have a very established community of S2000 Owners and Enthusiasts, who are all potential members of the club, and who could all benefit from the club's formation. Some of the ideas are listed below within the outline of the aims of the club.

As potential members of the club we would welcome your input on this idea and in order to form the club we need to elect a committee to run the club.

Setting up the club

Setting up the club is relatively straightforward, and I have detailed below the process which needs to be followed in order to set up a non profit club.

Myself Ade and Mark, as the current Community Organisers here are ready and willing to put into a lot of work (on top of that we have already done) and would therefore propose ourselves as committee members. In addition to that we would also like volunteers who are willing to devote their time and energy in helping on the committee. If you are interested please drop an email to me at (PM me for email address) . If we are overwhelmed with volunteers we'll then ask you for a proposer and seconder,if required, we will then ask the potential club membership to vote everyone in. We've agreed amongst ourselves that 5 seems like a reasonable number of people on the Club Committee to start with.
  • Chairman
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • 2 other Committee Members

Timing

Deadline for committee volunteers 28th Feb
If Proposer/seconder required 6th Mar
Vote Committee Members in 13th Mar (6th Mar if no proposer/seconder req'd)

Aims and Objectives of the Club

Below is a full draft club constitution, which is required for the club, but in summary our aims and objectives would be those listed in section 2 of the constitution. This would form the main work of the committee, aside from the usual administration.

Support for Events / Meets
Potential Sponsorship programme of For Sale Forum from S2000 related UK sponsors
Development of links with Honda UK and Dealerships
A Public face for the S2000 Community

[SIZE=1]THE UK HONDA S2000 OWNERS CLUB CONSTITUTION

1. The name of the Club will be the: S2K UK - the UK Honda S2000 Owners Club (\"The Club\").

2. The Club

A club sounds a bit organised and officialised for my tastes. Scary!

Nevertheless, you should look at forming a Ltd Co. for it - That stops the joint & several liability of the officials, should debt/liability problems arise. As a club does not officially exist legally, it would be the officials that get the writs personally.

Sounds like a great idea. I'll be a member.

Do we get free servicing?

Guys - I know you put a lot of work in to maitain this site, and setup events. Certainly more dedicated than many of us, although is there an advantage in setting up a club ?

I can only see more work for you, but if there is a clear advantage, then I'm right behind you !(Not in the literal sence of course )

I too, am unclear as to what additional benefits there will be, but if any help is required, give me a shout and I'll do what I can (time and work permitting).
Not sure I'll be able to perform any strenuous official activity, again for the reasons above, but if you're desperate (which I'm sure you won't be) lemme know.

As a business owner I'm more likely to respect and recognise a club.
Honda UK will recognise a UK S2000 Owners Club more than an affiliated group to the S2ki forum.
If you were to come to me, I'm not a car dealer, and ask me for club discount I'd want to know some simple things like.
1. What's in it for me?
2. How many members do you have, not guests not posters but paid up members who I can SELL to.
3. Do I have exclusivity on my offer. (That

Nice take on this Jaeger

I would be interested in doing some of the committee work, the main issue with this would be distance. I'm unlikely to drive all the way down south and put up with the squaller it entails just for an AGM. So if you Southern guys are prepared to do all the work I'll happily give you my

What about discounts with affiliated insurers?

Definitely a good idea in my book. Especially the bit about an official single voice to talk to Honda with.

I would be wary of the life membership for a tenner though.
How do you propose to handle on-going costs in a couple of years time? You need to think of an annual income, perhaps an initial joining fee plus an annual renewal?

I helped run one of the regions for Stag Owners Club for a few years. They were very well organised, with a monthly mag, a club transit van, marquees for Classic car rallies and all the associated flags, fences and things.
They did have more than 5,000 members though.
Not suggesting that we'll ever get to that level, but even simple things like petrol on club business, or your stationery costs will mount up.

Just my 2p's worth guys.
