Default Oil change without Oil filter change?

As title, can you change the oil and leave the oil filter as is as i don't have the tools to change this (or the knowhow) i want to pull the oil out of the S2000 as i have no idea what kind of oil is in it. And change it to some stuff i know. Is this a good idea?

Thanks, Dan

Why not take it to a garage?

Or if you really want to do it yourself you could just get a oil filter stopper so it doesn't fall off afterwards and just install the new one hand tight

I guess if you had recently changed your oil filter and your oil was still nice and clean.

However, in your case, your old filter will still hold a fair bit of dirty oil which will mix with your new oil straight away

a new OEM filter is approx £8

Thats a fair point, how much oil does the filter hold in it? Does it not drain out when sitting?

I'm aware the filter is resonably cheap, thats not the issue, its more to do with changing it.

Another question i have just thought of, can this be done on two axle stands or does it need the back to be put up as well?

£10 for a HAMP or OEM filter is about right. For the sake of £40 at a garage it will be better to get rid of the old oil that the filter holds, it will be around 400ml ish. Enough to contaminate the new oil.

Are you sure you have the know how to change the oil?

Where are you buying the replacement washer from?

With respect mate if you can't change an oil filter/buy the correct tool you should be leaving well alone I think.

AN oil filter removal tool is about £6 or £8 quid from halfords or ebay, a new filter with washer is about £14 from main dealer, its a very easy job.

you prob need to jack car up or wheel ramp or a kerb to get to the sump drain nut.

plenty of vids on youtube
