Default Oil Pump Recon?

Having read through a lot of threads to do with engine failure due to oil starvation and a recent one to do with the amount of metallic debris in the oil pump filter mesh I was wondering if it's possible to strip the oil pump down, clean it up and put it back together or would I be better off sourcing a replacement from a low mileage car?

I'm trying to sort out a few bits with my new shed and with it being on 133k I think this is something I need to consider to help longevity of the engine.

Thanks.

Not sure on the best option is or costs, but it's something I've thought about. Assuming the engine feels good I think I would look at replacing the oil and water pumps after 100k miles for peace of mind. They've got to have a finite life and oil starvation/over heating due to pump failing has got to be high up in the list of reasons an engine will eventually fail.

What you say makes sense, although I've suggested replacing the pump before as preventative maintenance and had a few arguments against it, can't find the thread now but I think mostly centred around how much of the timing chain, cover, etc needs to be removed to replace the oil pump and it being a right PITA which is why nobody does it (that and the price of a new pump)

They are both quite expensive but cheaper than a new engine.

Hmm interesting...I'd not really thought about how difficult it would be to do. I wonder if anyone has and exactly what needs to be removed.

I would say its worth doing if less than say £500 to do both oil and water pump. If its much more than that I'd probably just let them run their course

Don't think the oil pump has ever been an issue on Hondas.

Seems like a waste of time. Bearings could be more useful but then Hondas never seem to like any sort of non robot rebuild

Just get a cheap oil pressure gauge and a sandwich plate, sorted.

I have a Spa Digital oil pressure and temp gauge that i monitor everything on.

Mine caught debris from my shell bearings. The Honda dudes thought best to replace the oil pump rather than cleaning it and the chance of leaving some debris behind. Warranty is a great word.
