Default oil question

2000my, jap import and done 64k miles.

people seem to be using mobil oil on these forums. 5w30 or 10w40 fully synth.
according to the FAQ, running your engine in when new should be done on mineral oil.

so, why use mineral oil and then swap to synthetic after those first few 000's miles? why not just use mineral or semi (thats cheaper than fully synth) for the entire life of the engine?

if there is good reason to use fully synth, then my brother can get it at trade price (if not less) for toyota branded oil. apprently it's just rebranded shell oil - worth to use it, or stick with retail purchase mobil oil?

Nah, only the snakeoil salesmen.
I would suggest that most on here do not service thier own cars so get regular mineral or semi synthetics put in at the dealers or local garage.

Oddly enough, the owners handbook recommends something similar!

Mineral oil is used to allow engine components to bed in, then changed to semi or fully synthetic after a short time.

Semi is fine, full synth is better if you drive it hard.

Full synth seems to last considerably longer than semi as well. I hear from some reliable enough sources that Silkolen Pro S is very good oil. Can 5L for about

you mean it has a longer working life, or less oil topups between an oil change boab?

imo oil is oil. aslong as it's the right weight and oil spec (mineral, semi or full synth), then either cheap halfords or expensive mobil will do

Both Veehexx.

Get in touch with Opie Oils though they'll set you right, they're well thought of amongst most of the Honda communities and they have lots of different types of oil. Call me a snob but you wouldn't catch me putting the halfords stock shite in my motor
