Can't you use the OBDII port and a laptop/android phone running Torque to get oil temps? Never done it, so don't know, but my mate with a MG-TF can do it.
I don't think that oil temp is one of the params available, I've got a Scangauge that monitors values from the ECU and although that has a gauge for oil temp the S ECU does not populate the values. All OBDII systems vary quite a bit.

Ah that's a shame, would be an easy solution!

You could hold the twatphone out & make that whistling noise & say "It's worse than that - it's dead, Jim" just like they used to on Star Trek.

Normal driving temperature is 88 deg C water temp.
Inlet with standard air box is 35-40 deg C
Voltage 14.2V-14.3V

As soon as you have 3 bars it is ok to vtec. For all of you who are concerned about damaging your car - I drove my s from 60k - 130k on the clocks and it was happy being vtec'd from 3 bars. I rarely did it and usually cruised after using vtec so less stress on everything.

Transmission, cv's and diff are my concern in this weather.

i'm with c7jfw - non-self-heating components are more of a worry like transmission and diff.

the S usually feels alot different once warmed up though, and not just engine-wise, so i go off handling rather than anything else.

What does three bars mean, and measure? Mine will get up to three bars within around two miles of 20mph cruising in this weather. Is the coolant temp sensor measuring the coolant temperature in the head - the thermostatically closed circuit on most engines?

Since I've had my AEM EMS ECU fitted and the modifry ECT module I get a far more precise coolant temp reading on the dash.

The bars mean as follows;

I've seen my S2000 go up to 220 when sitting in traffic, normal running temp seems to be between 190 & 205, filciking between the 3rd and 4th tabs.

It's much more acurate than the OEM scale.

Panicks you the first time you see the 5th one light up though .

Fahrenheit yes?
If it's Celsius I'd be worried about those temps!
