Fair enough! I'll settle for my smoother performance and better pick up, and just live with the feeling that I've been screwed every time I go to the petrol pump

Being a motorist in London means you get screwed so many ways already (with one MAJOR "bend-over-and-spread-cheeks" scheme starting from Monday) that another few pounds isn't going to make much difference to be honest.

Somebody worked out that due to congestion charging it is going to cost the average wage-earner the equivalent of 17% additional tax just for the right to drive their car to work every day in the charging zone.

G'day Guvs,

Firstly, we won't mention the Soccer.... oops, sorry did I say that?!

The price of Optimax here in 'Done Under', has gone up to about AU$1.08.... which with the exchange rate, making that less than 40p / Lt. Previously it could be had for about 10-15 cents / Lt less.

I think the reason Optimax price holds firm is the demand. Most Oil companies are quick to raise prices but (I think) they can't do that for petrol already shipped to the stations. Lower demand for Optimax means it moves (retail term) more slowly. So the 95 octane turns-over more quickly and prices fluctuate more than for Optimax.

Once the in-tank stock of Optimax is sold I expect its price will rise steeply

I think it's more physcological. at 79.9p people will buy it, if it's over 80p then they won't, even if it was 80.1p. Especially so as Shell are trying to push optimax branding. if UL goes to 80p THEN optimax will probably rocket up.

Anyway, my regular Shell (Canterbury/Peugeot station) - 75.9 for UL, 79.9 for Optimax.

Did notice regular Unleaded up from 73.9 to 76.9.

Optimax from 78.9 to 79.9

Another important point for penny savers, Optimax as well as giving better performance will give you better mpg. So it could be cheaper to buy OPTIMAX!!!!!!!!
