Default Out of my depth?

WOW, what an immense amount of information here. Found the site yesterday and didn't stop reading until 3am.

The only problem now is that with so much tech talk about:
1st owners having to have used mineral oil for the first 6 months, (would they have),
not revving past 6k for the first 650miles (would anyone have been able to resist),
daily, weeky and monthly checks, (would anyone actually of done these constantly?)
seizing bolts all over the place almost certain on cars over 3 years old,
geomotries constantly needing checking due to its sensitivity and then not being possible due to seizing bolts
etc etc...
...Im completely bamboozled and feel that when buying a second hand S2000 there is a huge margin for buying one that will lead to huge bills and a very small margin to finding one that will be ok.

Is this a fair reflection or this a complete over reaction (I really hope so cos I love this car) as I have no idea now as I am a complete novice when it comes to cars .

Also I live in Ibiza where the roads aren't always the best and there is sea air around. Is this a bad place for an S2000?

Thanks for any guidance.

Nick

I think you are overly worrying

Most enthusiasts would look after their cars, if you're really worried try to find one that someone has had since new. If they've had it a few years chances are it's loved.

There are things that can go wrong, like any car. It probably just looks worse here as this site has a big following and a lot of people who really know their stuff. Sure it's no worse that a lot of other cars - just seems like it because of that

Sea air - don't think that's meant to be good for any car particularly

So how much salt is put down on the roads in winter in Baleric's. I've got a feeling the condition are better for the car than the UK or Ireland

after taveling around the island of ibiza last week, in a seat leon, dont get an S2000, your roads are shocking, some great long straights, but mainly crap pot holes everywhere, i would say its not the best place to own one, unless u dont go into the country side then it will be fine

NO

it is a very good place!

the S2000 is a very cool machine ...

don't worry about all the sh*t flying about

we all love and care very much for the machines

so there is a hell of a lot of detail that we need to take care of

What a great response thanks guys.
No salt on the roads ever, hardly rains and no I have another car to go up any tracks. It would be treated very kindly and used only on main roads (I don't really use any other to be honest).

Is there any advantage of buying off Honda, there are a few that are reasonably priced back home (Kent) and would they tell me if the bolts are seized before I buy do you think?

I'd be looking in the for sale section if I were you mate, PLENTY of fine specimens to choose from there, and all well maintained by enthusiast owners.
Good luck in your quest

Dealer prices are always - have to be - higher than private. Any warrantee would be an advantage, you would need to be in the UK though.

Any reputable Honda dealer, given a VIN number, can check see if the recalls have been done (See FAQs) and can look this up for any UK S2000.

As to the suspension geometry 'bolts', you should request an inspection/report of these before committing to buy if you are worried.

But you won't need to worry about that for posing/cruising slowly on smooth beach-side roads

Cant wait, its a well deserved treat after the long and very hard summer.

Are the seized bolts only a problem when it comes to broken bushes then, as I thought it would cause problems when needing to correct the geometry or tracking.

Also I remember reading about some specialists who work with S2000, bolts, geometries etc. are they usually booked up long in advance or are they able to work at short notices as I only have a week to find a good one when I return.

Grey import from Cyprus maybe if you want a RHD car?
