If you can show me a family sized hybrid for £26k that performs like the 318/118d and can do all this.

I'll get one next.

Hybrid cars=fail
Electric cars with batteries=big fail
Too true! I only drive the wifes Jizz when I can't find my cilice, and the Jizz isn't exactly a family sized car.

If you re-map the car you can get it to inject fuel on the overrun so that the exhaust makes pops and bangs as you slow down.
Just like carbs

Plus it uses more fuel, spits flames, kills your catalyst and baby seals etc., sounds awesome and really annoys people.

No down sides.

I used to try to hypermile when I was going up to Scotland to see my family and then I worked out that the savings I was making (although technically difficult and rewarding) were financially pointless.

I could get 500 miles out of a 35 litre tank of petrol and be tired, stressed and miserable or do it in 50 litres and have fun and be happy.

15 quid? It's not worth it.

Lexus Ct200h, no road tax, 3k cheaper but a little slower than the slowest 318 with build quality as good as BMW, however the lexus is not quite as nice to look at .

Rather have a 318d.

I always leave the car in gear, never coast, but at the end of the day, you save fuel going down the hill, then negate any savings by going up the other side!

Your overall driving style and mood will have a much more profound effect on your fuel economy than the engine not injecting fuel when you lift off.

When I get my de-cat and cat back exhaust, I want to re-programme the ECU so it pops and bangs on the over-run, ooo yeh!

I love antilag! So antisocial!

Kills the turbo over time though!

Pops and bangs isn't true antilag though, it is the closest approximation you can achieve without some serious modifications.

The Subaru Rocket system is amazing, you should check that out.

On an NA engine there really is no need for it but I just love the sound of it, I used to get it on every downshift with the RangeRover.

Plus, as Clarkson would say, it would irritate Bill Oddie.

pops and bangs are what make slowing down or changing gear worthwhile
