I have some weirdness on the paint on my boot and rear wing near the aerial

clicky link to picassa pics

anyone any idea of what this is, whether it means a paintjob (in which case I won't bother )

edit: you'll see it best in 2nd pic or if you zoom

cheers,

Jason

Looks like clearcoat failure, (has this been repainted previously?) if it has failed then it's normally a repaint.

i bought the car at 14 months old.. i think it's had paint on the rear.

what do you think is involved then? ie.. could i just get the affected areas fixed or will they have to use a colour and fade in, making it a big job??

I can't remember the technical term for it (might be solvent pop) but that has happened because the paint has been baked too quickly. Basically, the top layer of paint has dried too quickly and has trapped solvent underneath. The car will have sat in the sun, the paint got hot and the solvent has cratered the paint as its come out.

You need to get the offending panels stripped and resprayed. I'm afraid to say it is likely to only get worse and may well spread across the whole panel.

Those panels have obviously been resprayed at some point.

Not a big deal tbh. that can be blended along the corner of the upper wing.
Maybe wise to cover the boot lid though. At a guess you are looking at a few hundred tops, could be as little as
