Default Parkers prices

Are the prices quoted in Parkers price guide close to reality?

Around £8000 for a 06 GT with average miles and £9000 from a dealer?

Sellers seem shocked when this value is quoted and say stuff like " We buy any car offered more than that!! '

If you know anyone in car sales ask them to get the Black Book price. This is what the trade uses.

Black Book is more commonly known as CAP these days.

Generally traders buy using CAP and sell using Glass' as CAP values low and Glass' values high. That way they have their margin with flexibility to haggle on price, keeping the market moving.

Sometimes Parkers is bang on but then others its miles out.

To be honest i'd ignore those figures above. If you can find a an 06 GT with decent miles, not many owners, with good history for 8 grand id be amazed.

Cars like the S2000 can fluctuate more in price as well because they are fairly uncommon - enthusiasts can/will pay more for "the right one". Equally the lemons can go very cheap and therefore can seem to pull the general market prices down as an average. Plus with a convertible, you can probably add +5-10% to the price during the summer months quite easily!

'tis a funny one.

As Floppy said CAP is the best option (can do it online I believe) Parkers price guide is a waste of time.

Cheers.....Tony..

Dealers make me laugh, they use Parkers etc against you but dismiss it if you use it when haggling.
