Performance Questions.
Hi folks,:hello
Am new here, just awaiting a delivery date for my new S2000, (nurburgring blue, hardtop) have enjoyed rifling through the site reading all the stuff thats here.
I have a couple of questions though:
Do you have to run the car on Super Unleaded or can you use normal Unleaded and does it affect the performance greatly one way or the other?
Can anyone recommend a decent aftermarket Alarm system?
I currently have a fairly nice pioneer ICE system and was going to change it over but dont know if the standard remote controls will work? Does anyone know of the do straight off or will I need to get an adaptor of sorts?
I read on one link about laser deflectors, where can I get them and what exaclty are they supposed to do?
I know these might sound a bit numpty but there you go, I f you dont ask you'll never know will ya!
Will let you know when I get it, if it ever turns up.
cheers easy

Hi welcome to the board
Honda specify 98 RON minimum for the S2000 with 95 for emergency use. Car runs OK on 95 but the ECU will retard ignition under load to reduce pinking and consequent potential engine damage
Clifford 600 seems the most popular alarm choice, Toad and Cobra also in use.
Pioneer offer a dash control interface for the S2000 in order to retain the functionality with their headunits. Details can be found here: Pioneer dash control interfaces you need Adobe Acrobat to view.
Please note that these require the an IR transmitter eye to be positioned in view of the new headunit i.e. inside the stereo flap somewhere... I fitted this setup to our Focus and it works very well with no delay at all
SLD920 laser jammer info can be found with a search or the ECM posse will probably chime in
Enjoy the site, there is more info and knowledge here than at just about any Honda dealer....

The super vs normal argument has gone round a few times. Some people think that the car feels slightly down on power on RON95 (inc. me). Others say that there is no difference. Autocar claimed that running performance cars on Optimax keeps the head cleaner than running on supermarket premium unleaded. Perhaps because of that report, most people seem to try to run on an Optimax diet (including me).
I was told by one honda mechanic that you shouldn't VTEC the car on premium unleaded, but that may be complete nonsense.
I can't help you on the others i'm afraid; everything else on my car is bog standard.
regards,
stephen

There are are several superchargers and turbo kits either available for the S2000 or on the way. Some people have spent huge amounts of money on forced induction on the S and so far I don't think anyone has made any BHP gains that are worth the money spent.
Bear in mind too that this engine revs to 9200 rpm which would disintegrate most engines, not to mention clutches. Many people who've gone for forced induction have experienced problems with engine, clutch and LSD which are all placed under heavier stress with forced induction. Don't ask about what it's likely to do to your warranty. Honda extracted virtually every bit of power out of this engine and left very little for the modders to work with.
