Default Petrol Price Rise?

I just heard on the radio that petrol could soon be going up by 25p per gallon.

Or was I dreaming?

Petrol prices have been decreasing recently, if they were to go up by 5p per litre there would be a LOT of unhappy people, not likely before a General Election?

did Fletch mention the Government in this?

It's inevtiable, given barrel prices are so high (and Shell overestimating it's supply)

I'm paying about 80p now for normal unleaded

No need to mention the govt, we all know when petrol prices rise too much some of the blame goes to the govt due to our high taxation on fuel. Its a little annoying given the huge profits recently announced by the oil companies.

With the budget in March I am sure the govt had wanted to do a small rise, its going to be very difficult to bring in, if these prices rises happen.

Shell etc. make a lot of money from other items as well as the pumps. The profit margin per litre is very small. They make a lot of their billions from shop sales, reselling, distribution, refining for others etc. Even if they only broke even on fuel sales, they'd still make billions profit.

That's only just over 5p a litre though, those sort of fluctuations are not that unusual !!

Certainly not in Hemel, in fact 2 shell garages 2 miles apart can be that much different !!

82.9p for Optimax this morning.

Its the oil companies that are said to be increasing the prices, not the government.

Get in there! My oil shares are at an all time high.

Total, highest rated amongst traders at the minute!

Government have actually held off their budget announced Nov 04 rise in Fuel (its not only petrol thats gone up)...but I say bring on the $60 barrel !!!!

OPEC allow the oil companies the excuse to raise oil fuel prices. The 25 p rise is being bandied about because the US go on driving holidays in Feb / March Petrol demand will exceed worldwide supply for the month apparently....hence supply demand allows them to charge more...
