Default Petrol thoughts

I usually use Optimax (as was).
Sometimes I'll use Tesco 99 or Sainsburys 99.
Sainsburys in Newbury and Savacentre Reading never seem to have 99 in these days so I had to use a BP garage. Ultimate was 8p a litre more expensive than the basic unleaded so I got the cheap stuff.
Does it matter?
My mate ran his S on cheapo fule for 90,000 miles over 3 years with no problems - but I remember previous threads suggesting supermarket fuel is not a good idea. But 8p a litre for an additive is taking the p word. What can it do for that?

Generally Optimax/VPower but when I've a northern journey approaching I tend to time a full tank refuel for near the date and stick 95 in for the motorways.

I actually get better performance from V-Power and better economy from standard and the one time I have had to use supermarket fuel I got 2 MPG more than usual. This is in the porka though rather than the S2k. Although the Porka specifies 98 RON only.

Does it? The 993 specifies 98 but says it will run on 95 if need be.

I remember seeing some tests on TV years back about the amount of crap that builds up on your engine if you habitually use supermarket fuel which lacks the detergents that the "big" operators put into their fuel. It may not make too much difference in the short term peformance-wise but I don't know what impact it might have on engine life etc if you used used it in the long term.

I always go for Optimax now V-Power or BP Ultinate where I can. Pleasantly surprised to get some today at 91.9p. Cheapest yet I think. Wonder how long that will last, still enjoy it while we can.
