problem is bearings are sized by colours. you should have markings on the block and marking on the crank which then cross reference to a bearing colour (and size) you will then need to plastigauge the bearings to see if they are within tolerance. if the crank is worn you cannot get oversize bearings from Honda.

one of the many reasons why engines dont get rebuilt in the UK. it's just too much hassle.

cant 100% confirm this yet as ive been bed bound this weekend but yes thats what a very clever engineer has told me when he came for a listen and to try a few things.

i cant afford to buy a low mileage engine and hoping a rebuild will cost less then a second hand engine,

also it would have to be an import spec engine as my car is jdm

some guys on the usa forum section have said to fit f22c crank and rods if i can get hold of them, has anyone done a f22c conversion?

The Yanks would say that (I'm an ex-yank myself) as they think the F22C is superior, but it ain't. If you had the time and money the thing to do would be to bore, re-line, and stroke the bugger, but then you start talking about bigger money.

It's unfortunate if a spun bearing is the case, but the seller could not have known this was happening unless they put REALY heavy oil in. It may be worthwhile getting the oil tested to see if it is of some sort of HUGE viscosity, they only reason to put it in would be to mask a noisy bearing.

I would give Rob a call at Garage R and get advice as to the best way to proceed if it does turn out to need a bottom-end rebuild.

spoke to someone at garage-r and he said to:

1 - try find a replacement crank if this one is fudged

2 - he can supply me with a second hand crank that needs a machine shop to re-grind it but order bearings first and get them to match the bearings exactly as needs to be a tight tollerance to 9k rpm

3 - Stroker it if i can afford it

4 - buy a new crank and bearings from honda and not look at the bill

always fit a new iol pump which i wanna do anyway,

try investigate into why its failed in the first place.
