I had this issue too, was using Google maps on my iPhone while it was plugged in with a genuine apple charger to a Belkin USB car charger and the battery was loosing charge!!! Plugged my phone into a small charger dongle thingy and it started charging as normal.....

I didn't have exactly the same problem, but I just didn't like having the cable stretched from front to back of the car, so I fitted one of these into the little plastic triangle near the netting in the passenger foot well. it works a treat and I can charge mine and the girlfriends phones at the same time, or even the tablet/kindle through the 2.1 amp socket

That looks like a neat idea. How/where did you run the power cabling from the fusebox?

I took the centre console trim out and it was easy to run a extension from the existing cigarette lighter socket. I thought if they are both essentially used for the same thing, then they might as well use the same fuse. The only thing the original socket gets used for now is the tyre pump.

One of those portable small battery back up things - charge it up and then if your phone/tablet/whatever goes flat you plug it into this, the one I have will just about charge my iphone 6 from flat to full but then it needs charging again itself.

Gotcha. Yes mine charges fine from one of those as well. It's pretty much been the only way that I could keep the phone charged while driving.
