Proof in the pudding
A lad with an Astra and electric supercharger came into my mates tuning spot today.
I was going to take a picture but thought it would be inappropriate to do so, and laugh at the owner whilst it was in the shop. I've also read people saying they work/don't work.
Needless to say i wanted to place a bet that it would be hardly any good or lose power, it cant due to the power it consumes and outputs. I've felt stronger hair-dryers/could fart harder.
It was this one here, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TORNADO-Electric-Sup...#ht_1429wt_1145
He paid £120 for it.
It infact it netted 4bhp but this would be due to dyno inaccuracies, and the fact the car was running very lean to begin with. The electric SC disrupted airflow and made the car run a little richer thus better for power.
So in no shape or form do they work, possibly the ones they use on very big model airplanes could but again i don't think that would work. I told him to flog the electric SC, and buy a 2nd hand decat etc.

The thing is, ignoring the specification, there's no reason why an electric supercharger couldn't increase power.
In reality, unless it's draining a standard battery quicker that it gets charged, it's as useful as MB in a car celebacy competition.

FACT*: If you wire two up, one behind the other in the intake tract, and make the first one spin faster, then you'll create a lovely area of compression, and you've actually then converted the engine to a turbine!

Aj, have you been drinking?
I bet it was a MAF based air flow meter...?
Chilled, i'm strictly a once a week man these day. Getting old, you know
The point you make about the battery is spot on, it's all about extra load on the battery and thus te alternator and ultimately the engine. But there is also the path of resistance which it makes versus it's ability to push air.

4bhp... if you fitted 10 in a daisy chain you'd get 40bhp
for £1200 that's not bad

they do work if you buy the correct ones
top one spools the turbo up allowing a big turbo without lag, bottom is used in short bursts like NOS but you have to wait for it to recharge, both expensive
they are working with a Rotrex one to give boost to a small engine, it makes a very economical city car with a bit of extra power when needed
these dont work
