Default Question about Customs Charges

Hi all, as an accountant I feel really stupid about asking this question, but hey, I've never had to do it before.... (god, I just realised that I admitted to being an accountant!!!)

I'm just about to buy a wired harness, DCI, and SCV kit from the Modifry website, and I was wondering how I will end up paying the customs charges?

Advice please from anyone that's done it.

Cheers

Oh and cheers to GaryB for the HU (and the chocolate Freddo!!! ).

I'm not an accountant and have figured out ways not to pay it.

United States Postal Service, Gift value of $50, description car parts.

FedEx, UPS will nail you with mickey mouse charges.

Job done

What happens if (in the unlikely event) you get caught avoiding charges?

I have found that if it's an expensive parcel and the Royal Mail deliver they want paying on delivery or they take it back to their depot and you collect it after paying there. Other couriers charge at their depot (they send a letter telling you it's ready to be collected and the cost of import duty to pay either on line or at the depot). Most other times I've been lucky and paid sod all.

I paid no import duty on my modifry DCI and glovebox tidy, he did put a nominal value on the declaration though.

I'm not avoiding them at all.

Just so happens that the car parts they are sending are from my mate and they aren't that valuable.

Hence the Government lets me off

The first statement indicates that you are avoiding them

Having said that, if it stops Gordon wasting it, it's not a bad thing at all.

I you want the good news,

this was taken from lancer forum.

I found this and found it quite interesting indeed, as we know, large purchases from Rexspeed incur a charge by Pacelforce....well....I may have found a way around it....read on...

Firstly the package was labeled correctly as its legal to import for person use and customs didnt put up an arguement they simply held the package for a couple of days and then slapped the duty and VAT charges
