Bloody hell, mind blowing stuff. Is there an argument for using these octane boosters then if you cant get hold of 98? Do they have anything in that can damage the engine?

There are some octane boosters that can damage the cat. If you want to try one, I'd suggest getting a bottle of Miller's Octane Booster. Probably cost you about

Some partial information here. The F20C ECU does not advance the ignition until it senses knock. It works off the base maps and retards (in a big way) when it senses knock.

Knock, left unchecked, can damage your engine. Once it's retarded because of seeing knock, the F20C ECU will gradually advance ignition until reaches the base map values. But if knock starts again, the ECU just advances till it senses the knock, then retards again. So you end up in a loop of advance a bit, then back off as you start knocking again. There are other effects - the fueling is also setup for high octane fuel. Running lower octane affects the coolant temp and other aspects of the engine behaviour as well.

I'm not trying to pick a fight here, your post has a lot of good info into. But the question was about an S2000 - and the map's/ECU behaviour aren't

Just for my own understanding though, isn't this essentially what I stated with regards to adjusting timing, the knock sensor adjusts the ignition depending on what it detects (to protect the engine) therefore lower quality fuel would just have performance loss?

Bugger, was going to buy some octane booster today for my trip to the Highlands.

Get the impression Helfords ain't gonna stock it.

Is there any thing safe that I can get from there?
