Well, we thought the same here, but all of a sudden there have been a lot of engine failures on older cars too.

It's very hard to get any idea of %ages. Certainly with the 08/09 problems (and I agree those cars have had far too many) Honda UK seems to have gagged owners.

Is Honda Pl doing anything to help local owners towards the cost?

Already a OWNER is to reconcile the need to fix it at their own expense. But even though we know what is the reason for these failures ...

Is the problem with lubrication (pump malfunction) or any defective parts in the engine ...

I know that in the UK were removed oil pan for inspection. But what you were looking for?

We don't actually know. Honda won't say.

The problem seemed to be 'crank walk' from a dodgy set of thrust washers.

With some cars, it seems as if the main bearing shells were also substandard too.

We suspect there was a box or two of bad bearing shells & washers used on the assembly last batch of F20c s made. That way, they have no way of knowing which engines were affected and which weren't until they fail.

That's our best guess, anyway.

I am actually the latest victim of Honda's mistakes with 08/09 engines and to be honest as now I am considering different solutions I would really like to know what causes the failures just to eliminate the problem whilst rebuild.
FYI, Honda Poland does not give a f*** about these problems and they keep blaming users.
I just started a new topic on F20C2 to F22C conversion so please take look. Looking forward to your suggestions.
Cheers

Reply below from Honda UK when I raised the matter of S2000 engine failures. My 09 reg has now done 32500 miles & so far engine is perfect. I believe that if there is a problem with lack of initial lubrication of the crankshaft thrust washers engine problems will occur at low mileage.

If any unusual mechanical noises become noticeable from engine or drivetrain when driving then best to drive gently to somewhere where it is safe to stop & get car taken on flatbed to Honda dealer. I would not trust breakdown companies to diagnose unless its something obvious.

Cause

"In some cases, oil application to the crankshaft thrust
washer during production was insufficient. Combined
with a high surface pressure, this could result in scuffs
on the thrust washer, leading to abnormal wear and
eventually abnormal noise."

I hope this information helps , As I said please let me know if you wish to discuss this any further in the future. I would by happy to call you should you prefer if you provide me with a contact number along with the best times to contact you.

Thank you very much for taking the time to contact Honda UK .

Best regards

Richard
