Default Questions from a newbie

Hi guys, just joining up here today.

I am seriously thinking about buying an S2000 to replace my current car (Lexus IS200) in a few months time, but I've got some questions for you season owners. I have driven the S a few time but only on short 1 hour or so test drives.

1) Will a 6ft tall, slightly wide ( ) driver get comfortable in it for a longish drive?
2) Based on "enthusiastic" driving, what kind of mileage do you guys get?
3) How long before changing the rubber on the rears?
4) 95RON or 98RON?
5) Current model, or 2004 model?

Any other good bits, bad bits, etc that you can let me know about would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Hi dja,

1) Several tall drivers do have a problem with the S, so I would advise a long test drive.

2) I seem to turn in around 26 to the gallon.

3) I have only done 3,000 so my tryes are still good, some people get around 8,000 and some 15,000. I am sure some others will comment.

4) 98, no question

5) We still do not know what's happening in the UK in 2004 with the engine. Lots of speculation it maybe 2.2 litre but lower reving. (my dealer says not, but then salesmen lie )

1) Most people are ok
2) I do lots of short, peak time trips and get about 18mpg, which I think is about the worst on the board
3) Me and StevenM = 4000 mile on rears, rest of board circa 10K
4) It will run on 95, but most use Super or Optimax
5) IMO 2004 looks pants + rumour is the UK may not see the major (ie engine changes) for 2004.

Good bits: it will make your life infinitely better

bad bits: you WILL end up spending a fortune on it, and the wheels WILL corrode, especially if used in all weather

Thanks guys, 10K before changing tyres does kind of scare me a bit as I assume they are similar prices to my current 17's (>

Well my answers might cheer you up :-)

1) Just try it and see - only way but you should be OK
2) 29 - 30MPG - thats mostly motorway but VTECing everyday (few miles of cross country as well everyday !!)
3) 18K on the rears - still have same fronts
4) Use Super or Optimax
5)

Hi,
I'm 5'11" and weigh 16 stones but had no problem at all on a recent 3 hour blast to North Wales. If in doubt, request a long test drive stating your reason for needing to do so.
I've got a now three month old GT and am not hankering after the 04 at all. I love my car just as it is!
Enjoy! Lazz
p.s. had some great compliments from a guy in an IS200 recently as we waited for a green light............

1) Will a 6ft tall, slightly wide ( ) driver get comfortable in it for a longish drive?

Not your height & weight, but I recently did a 10 hour drive with no discomfort. Suprised even me The first 5 hours were non-stop.

2) Based on "enthusiastic" driving, what kind of mileage do you guys get?
22-24 mpg depending on the season. After depreciation, fuel and then insurance are the larger costs of ownership. I could get far better mileage if I had more self control.

3) How long before changing the rubber on the rears?
You'll need to replace rears more often than fronts. Possibly 2 sets of rears to one set of fronts.

4) 95RON or 98RON?
98 or higher. Optimax mostly.

5) Current model, or 2004 model?
Subjective - for me, a 2001 else 2003 else, very last choice 2004. I'd try to haggle a good 2003 price using the 2004 as ammunition. Print out some of the site info. re the model change, as UK salesmen will deny all knowledge ( )

The change of seasons may help your position - certainly if buying second-hand. I'm sure that you could find a low mileage 03 s/h. One of the best times to own an S is when you have the odd sunny day going in to winter. Oh, and also coming out of winter as well

>2) Based on "enthusiastic" driving, what kind of mileage do you guys get?

No idea! never cared!

>3) How long before changing the rubber on the rears?

Not very far, 4000 to 4500 miles on the rears but I only ever drive the car for fun.

>5) Current model, or 2004 model?

Anything after 2002 when the glass rear window was introduced.

>Any other good bits.

The meets! Had 3 Jock meets so far and an Isle of Arran meet last month.

What colour are you thinking of getting?
