Sport Auto have apparently time a lap at 8:39. I think that's a full lap, not btg. So a btg qould be closer to 8:20-8:25

BTG of 8:10 - 8:15 should be possible.. as I said on the Easter meet.. Gan-san went around with traffic.. in around 8:15-8.20..

Can someone just clarify what the start and finish points are for amateur laps?

Do you time yourselves from the first bend (on the Nordschleife) to the bridge at D

On the long straight there's a gantry (g) near the start and then halfway down you peel off, then just at the end of the straight you go under the bridge (b)

Hence btg, bridge to gantry. Next visit my aim is sub 9 minute. I got 9:02 on my last visit and that was slowed by traffic. Soooo close.

People talk about the BTG time - that means bridge to gantry. The public entrance is half way down the main straight (on the Nordscliefe, not the GP circuit), and you go under a bridge just after the start, and under a gantry just before the end. I took a passenger round with me when I stopped there for a few hours in August, and despite it being partly wet I think I managed about 9:45 in my FTO. FWIW the other FTO owner I went with at Easter (who's a Ring regular) says he can do 8:30. Knowing the circuit is everything - you'll get overtaken by inferior drivers in inferior cars if they know the circuit and you don't. I think after my 21 laps at Easter, and 4 in August, I know about 3/4 of it.

Usually you just get to do the Nordscleife, but last Easter (and apparently the Easter before) they opened up the GP circuit as well so you get to do the whole lot as one (very) long lap. A lot of people I spoke to didn't like the GP circuit much (it's a bit "mickey mouse" compared to the Nordscliefe), and in particular a lot of the bikers were going slow on the GP circuit. But I quite enjoyed the GP circuit as it was a chance to push hard and experiment without the feeling of death being inches away that you get on the Nordscliefe And also it helped to get brakes, tyres and driver fully up to temperature before tackling the difficult bit.

Ah, here you go:

You can see the exit/entrance marked half way down the straight.
