Quick Oil Question
Hi Guys,
Just thought Id query this as it didnt sound right to me. Have just booked my S into Marshalls in Reading for its 4500 mile interim service. I asked how long this would take and what the cost would be etc, also asked what oil they would put in - the guy told me they will put in fully synthetic oil ?
I thought I was supposed to run mineral oil till 9000 miles, and then change to fully synth ?. I did mention this he said "no its already run in now" and I mentioned the s2ki website and he knew immediately who we were altho I didnt get his name.
Am i going (or have I already gone) mad ?

ps - the service will be the weekend before the Academy day, if this makes any difference.

I believe some people put fully synthetic oil in at around 6,000 miles. I presume it depends upon whether you consider that the engine parts are fully "bedded in" i.e. has it stopped drinking loads of oil? I was told that to put fully synthetic in before ~9,000 miles may delay this process.
I had the oil/bolt change at ~5,800 miles and they put semi-synthetic in. What is definate is that if you're having oil changed at less than 6,000 miles then it needs the molybdenum addative.

Yup - agree with moor.
My first service is due in June and I think I'll have about 4000 miles by then. I am definitely going to insist on the additive and also mineral oil - even if I have to supply my own.
Oh and I'll probably have the oil bolts done at the same time.

cool cheers guys, the earliest I can get the car in on a saturday will see me pushing about 5200 miles i think so Ill ask them to use semi-synth with molybednum.
That said - the car has stopped drinking oil some 1000 miles ago now, its been very well behaved for the last little while in the oil department. The only thing I have noticed is that on cold starts (I always leave the car sat running until I reach two bars temp, then gingerly drive off) it sounds a bit more "rough" or "clanky" than it did before - I used to associate this in my Peugeot 306 with needing more oil (the dip stick lied) !!, not so in the S.
