Default R32

Hi guys,
i had ago with my mates R32 today, not that i condone road racing but it was a friendly blitz up a long stetch of road in the lake district.

It was about a 900 yard straight stretch, we both come off a roadabout, i vtec'd as soon as got onto a straight (nice driving if i do say so my self ).

Needless to say he was right on bumper, BUT could not get past.

I thought they were supposed to be some sort of rocket. Well it was my second play with a hot hatch, plus im still relatively new to the S. Has anyone else had experiences of these?

Cheers

Lardy loud quick golf albeit reasonable fun. FAR too expensive for a VW though.

They're quick off the mark because they have 4WD, but above around 80mph the S just sails away. Once you're rolling the S can reel in an R32 without even breaking a sweat. Try letting him set off first. Then laugh as he tries to get away.

I have 1st hand experience.

the power of hype, eh?

broadly similar performance to an S2000

but easier to extract the oomph

power and torque advantage offset by weight

one of those cars only companies buy new

why would you buy it with your own money when you can slaughter it with a three year old low mileage, better equipped M3 for thousands less?

or a new EVO

Lee,
is it blue? What is the spec and price please - please include mileage. I assume it is a Mk4?

Pulled one of these in on a rolling run up a dualled road. I had enough extra grunt to pass from behind which is fairly significant IMHO but I certainly didn't fly past!

Its black on a 53 plate. Done ~35k IIRC although it could be higher.
It's got a few bumps were it hasn't been looked after brilliantly cosmetically.

Mechanically though it has NEVER been driven hard, Stephs brother drives like a girl

The bonus is though he wants rid to buy a 320d so will probably let it go for little money. He has auctioned his last few cars, lost a fortune but not sure what he is going to do with this. He was complaining how much it had depreciated the other day though.

I owned one from new in feb 04 for just over a year.
Fantastic cars imho. Very easy to drive, bags of traction although they are not 4wd they are front wheel drive most of the time but the rears kick in when the haldex system senses loss of traction at the front.
They marketed them as a limited run and although they increased the numbers they only brought in something like 2500 uk cars (may of been less). Unfortunatley there are some dodgy lookalike around which confuse people who dont know. They sound gorgeous and if I really regret selling mine, a very robust car that was heavy but certainly didnt feel it. s2000, r32 or my 987s? bang for buck every day driving? r32 every time. M3? very quick but no appeal or character. R32 decent examples still fetching 17-18k.
Mark my words future quattro status. New one looks pants too which adds to the mk4 appeal.

The driver of the car you raced must have been shite, its certainly not that easy against an R32. The old R32 was quite quick - 0-100 in 16 secs. The new R32 is even faster. IIRC the new R32 will hit 100 in 15 secs which is only 0.4 secs difference on the S - hardly a whooping.

I agree with the comment about the M3, but not the EVO. The EVO has horrendous running costs - servicing every 4500 miles. Horrendous fuel consumption and I am sure its got a larger appetite for brakes and tyres. Not even mentioned insurance. I actually think it would be cheaper to run a used 911 than an EVO.
