range of problems...please help
having some probs with my S and i'm finding it hard to identify what the causes are...
1. i have a rough idle with lots of irregular exhaust popping and slight judderiness. also, i sometimes have judders when i put my clutch foot down and come to a halt. is this a misfire or i've read it might be exhaust valves and 'damaged retainers'?? i am not getting any kind of misfire symptons higher up in rev range.
2. if i change up slightly too early i get lots of popping and what seems like a lack of engagement with the clutch and gears. however, if driven more spiritedly this problem (as explained in the manual) goes away. but i still feel it is far too lumpy in any case. is this a MAP issue?
3. i'm finding quick starts sometimes difficult. when i dump the clutch the car seems to not want to pull away and is hesitant. could this be a fuel/air mixture issue?
4. the car doesn't seem to like stop-start traffic at all. i have to be really careful with the clutch, something I didnt expect from a honda!
5. on deaccel the clutch buzzes really badly.
my conclusions were probably a new clutch, but is a compression check needed here as well? are these faults fairly commonplace and characterisitc of the car or are there other checks i need to be doing as well? i've heard about the MAP-whack but is is more advisable to simply get a new MAP sensor?

try the map whack first. It can cure all sorts of wierd problems and is free!
Looking at the age of your car, the buzz will be the clutch plate needing replacing for the 055 clutch.
With respect to driving in stop start traffic, the S is known to kangaroo if you're not careful. Tightening the throttle cable can help. If you've removed the standard air box to fit some sort of filter that takes its air from inside the engine bay, this can also make it worse.

clutch will be dealt with under warranty and hopefully other stuff is all MAP-related and worst comes to worst it will just need a new one. ta

Good luck getting the clutch done under warranty. Very few of us have managed to do that.
only problem is, i get to take home a sodding vectra while my baby goes in...
I've got that exhaust popping as well! Very annoying! Idle is sometimes erratic but doesn't stall. Read my check engine light thread in the forum to see what I've done (still isn't fixed mind!!!)
