Hi guys,
had the mysterious rattle again, engine warm at about 3500-4000 revs and i got what sounds like a slappy constant rattle for about a minute and then it stops. doesnt do it below these revs nor as it hits the v-tec. This has only happened twice in a couple of weeks. Could it be tensioner? maybe a heat shield. Sounds like its coming from the centre of the engine bay just in front of the dash. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

 

You need to get the bonnet up and get your head under there.

Use the throttle on the manifold to rev the car and listen...

 

Thats the problem, its so intermittent that by the time i pull the car over and get the bonnet up its gone. Also it only seems to do it under power when i'm moving.

 

Could be the cat or a heat shield as you say.

Get under there with a torch and start pulling at things

 

i'll give it a go. Hope its nothing too serious, guess it would be more regular if it was anything major. Cheers
