Interesting, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks

Common issue on MX-5s, was a monthly thing on mine.

Only done it once on my s2000, as my drain clearer tool (the eath part out of a cable) has gone walkies so not sure what to use to clear them now - any idea? My curtain rail is too bendy and the tube cleaner is too fat...

I had the bottom half of a second hand rear quarter, including inner wheel arch, welded into my car about 18 months ago, iirc it cost about £250 to get the work done. It was a good job, you can't see the join at all and the paint finish was spot on, however even the new (well second hand) wheel arch now has a couple of tiny paint bubbles on the outer side - if I was going to do it again, I wouldn't buy anything more than a year or so old to weld in.

It's not the age of the metal that you weld in, it's the process of welding it in that creates the corrosion cell, and if it is not done to a good standard and treated on both sides with a rust inhibitor then that is where you get the problems. £250 sounds far too cheap for a job like that to be done properly.

You reckon my quote of £480 was more realistic then?

It depends what they are going to do for it really.

I agree, it is a lot about how the bodyshop does it, however the guy who did mine did do it properly. The new rust is on the doner panel miles away from the join so it must have been in the metal before the repair hence why I think using a doner panel from an old car is bad idea.
I was getting quotes of between £300 to £500 for the repair on one arch (not including the cost of the doner panel), I paid less because I only tax my car in the summer so I was able to leave it at the bodyshop for a few weeks.
