Rear control arm problem
#11
It's got a locking shaft / spline like an old fashioned tapered ball joint?
I wonder if they had to get loosened to fit the new suspension strut ..... not removed or replaced as far as I know

After some bashing and cursing about the lack of work space .... traced the problem to the ball joint on the end of the control arm, it's fooked. Rubber seal has perished and is half missing, the castellated nut looks like it has been eaten by the rust monkeys and there's visible play in the hub even with the wheel removed.
My view is that this makes the car potentially unsafe to drive and as such, it will be parked up until I can get new ones.
Honda tell me that it will be the 25th of March before they have one in stock

Either that ^ or replace with some T1R's or Hardrace items. These delete the rear steer affect and makes the back end much more 'tight'
They also give that extra amount of adjustability if you ever come to lower the car.
On a side note... eSeM, how did you remove the OEM toe arms without damaging the balljoint rubbers? Mine were like new before I started but afterwards were completely fooked It's a shame as they were as new and could have gone to someone else aswell...

Not interested in anything but OEM I have no plans on lowering, no plans on suspension upgrades and don't fancy dealing with seized rose joints / sheared bolts etc etc etc.

A big thanks to ESEM for having more stock than Honda and to PaulF for his delivery services
There is a cautionary tale here though, I hadn't noticed any problem up until refitting the 17s. I didn't feel any handling problems, i suspect due to the softer compound on the winter tyres. I'd have been happily flinging it around for another month. It wasn't until I tried to drive it hard on the 17s that I could really feel the effect, the back end has become as twitchy as hell, one way under power and the other way under braking. Looking at the play it has, i'd say it has been gone for a while - the consequences of that coming properly loose in a corner do not bear thinking about.
Going to add that to my list of twice yearly checks although looking at the state of the rest of the arms and knowing i've got seized compliance bushes at the front, I'm approaching the decision of when to go down the polybush route.

The story was that ESEM was good enough to dig one out for me because Honda said they couldn't get one till the end of March, I rang to cancel the order with them the next day but the part was on their desk - I honoured the order because it was placed in good faith and I actually like the parts dept at Johnsons in MK.
New part is now fitted - old part is not repairable, well not unless you're Bozwell which i'm not
